Wooden Wall Coverings

Are looking for an alternative to paint or wallpaper? For something totally different, try adding a wood wall covering. Wood exudes a warm feeling in a room that can be combined with any contemporary or traditional decorating scheme.

It becomes overdone if you panel an entire room, but used sparingly as an accent wall it can make a bold statement.

Product Ideas

Embossed wood veneer is similar to wallpaper. It comes in paper thin sheets of wood with a paper back, and is flexible enough to wrap around columns or turn corners. The veneers are usually available in a multitude of patterns and colors including intricate floral prints or solid wood grains. Installation should be done by someone who is used to working with unique wall treatments. Actually furniture upholsterers work great because of their experience in aligning patterns. The product is glued onto the wall just like wallpaper.

You care for the wall as you would a piece of furniture by dry dusting with a microfiber cloth. Once your paneling is installed, shine a light on it to bring out the grain in the wood.

For a truly unique look, try a wooden wall weave. It's available in various wood finishes such as maple, red oak and cherry, as well as natural. It comes in pre-assembled sections and is perfect for entry ways, kitchen back splashes, or even ceilings.

The product comes in small squares that are interlocked and fastened with nails, drywall screws or glue. To install you simply keeping adding more squares until you cover the desired area.

Another wood product by ColorWall is also a thin wood veneer, but with a fabric backing. It gives you the look of architectural wood paneling with a fraction of the cost. The product is real hardwood, only thinner, and prefinished and coated with a UV protection to prevent fading. It's available in over 300 colors, patterns and types of wood that can be custom dyed to your color scheme. The panels are so flexible that they can be installed over straight or curved surfaces with ease.

The wood veneer wall covering is considered an eco-conscious product especially with its line of reconstructed veneers that only replicate the look of some of the more rare and exotic species.
